Abstract

Neurodegenerative disorders are the conditions in which neurons of the central and peripheral nervous systems degenerate. Various cellular and molecular processes are associated with the progression of such degeneration, including inflammation, apoptosis, and axonal degeneration. Recently, SIRTUINs have emerged as one of the key factors associated with neurodegenerative disorders. SIRTUINs are involved in the regulation of several cellular and molecular processes in neurons of the nervous system through the deacetylation of target proteins. The chapter focuses on the modulatory role of SIRTUINs in neurodegenerative disorders and their potential therapeutic application.
