Abstract
The therapeutic importance of zinc has long been ignored. Now we are
progressively noticing and exploring the importance of zinc for our health as a potential
therapeutic agent that might be as equal to iron. Concurrently, zinc-based
nanostructured materials, in particular, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) are
becoming successively captivating as promising agents with plenty of medical
applications. In recent years, the phytochemical assisted green synthesis of ZnONPs is
considered a promising and novel approach in biomedicine because of its eco-friendly,
low toxicity, biocompatible, clinically adaptable, and economical with high
productivity and purity. Plants are a rich source of chemicals like alkaloids, glycosides,
terpenoids, flavonoids, tannins, enzymes, proteins, and vitamins. These phytochemicals
play a major role in the bioreduction, development, and stabilization of the metal-based
nanoparticles. ZnONPs, in particular, have gained huge popularity because of their
unique attributes and therapeutic potential as an antimicrobial agent. The contemporary
book chapter provides evidence of green synthesized ZnONPs potential applications in
burn wound infection as an antimicrobial agent.
